Rashard Lewis, of the NBA’s Orlando Magic, tested positive for a “precursor” to steriods. He will be suspended for 10 days and lost $1.6 million of his $18 million salary. He will be back on the court for the defending Eastern Conference Champs on November 16th against the lowly Charlotte Bobcats.

Rashard Lewis is juiced? Really? This guy averages like 4 rebounds as a forward! If he is taking steroids, he must have forgot that you still need to work out.

What does this mean for Orlando? Well, Vince Carter will have the green light. With Hedo Turkoglu off to Toronto and Rashard sitting out the first 10 games, Orlando will need a lot of offense from Vinsanity. Dwight Howard will no doubt own the middle, but teams will double if the only outside shooters are (little man) Jameer Nelson and Vince. I don’t see many long term issues for Orlando, but they will lose a few steps in the early chase for top seed in the East, unless Cleveland & Boston have significant troubles.

Yahoo! Sports reports that only 6 players have tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs since the league began testing in 1999. We know they excluded other “recreational” enhancers because I think the Trailblazers of old (the Jailblazers) might have tested positive 6 times a week.

I hope Rashard literally cleans up his act and gets back to Orlando quickly. He is good for the NBA. A big man who can really stroke the ball and create matchup problems.

Time will tell.
