How To Dunk Like An NBA Player

Every year the NBA hosts an All Star Game. Only the best of the best in basketball get invited. Besides the All Star Game, the premier event is the NBA Dunk Contest. The NBA Dunk Contest has four contestants, each with an amazing vertical and dunking ability.

Some of the former great NBA leapers were in attendance at this year's contest. I mean, these guys could jump out of the gym. Big time leapers like Dominique Wilkins, who could slam the basketball like his life depended on it. And Michael Jordan, who's vertical leap was ridiculous. He was effortless when gliding through the air for a sublime dunk. These guys talk the young ones how to dunk. Do you remember these two battling it out in the mid 80’s? Every dunk they did was perfect. If Michael Jordan showed his vertical leap by dunking from the foul line, Dominique Wilkins would jump even higher and do a tomahawk dunk. It never mattered who won, because the fans always got a great show.

Younger fans may not have seen these two greats live. But most have either seen highlights or clips on YouTube. If you have ever wondered how to increase your vertical and jump higher, you have no doubt found links to Dominique and Michael slamming the basketball.

I would bet that many of this year’s NBA Slam Dunk contestants are fans of Dominique and Michael. No doubt they must have been inspired by the leaping ability of both. One high flyer, supercharged vertical wonder in this year’s contest was Nate Robinson. This little man has tremendous ups and total vertical explosion. Mad hops, if you will. With a vertical over 45 inches, no one can jump higher for his size. To increase his vertical took countless hours of practice. And it probably took more than just jumping exercises. He has a strong, compact frame so he must be doing strength exercises to jump higher also. His investment in an amazing vertical leap paid off when he slammed over Dwight Howard for the title. Nate Robinson jumped over the 7-foot Dwight Howard to dunk. Amazing!

If you are an aspiring basketball player and want to learn to dunk, like your idols, you need to learn to jump higher. To get a good vertical leap like Nate, Michael, or Dominique -- or just to increase your vertical -- takes work. But jumping exercises, plyometrics, and strength exercises can have you jumping higher within a matter of weeks. Just imagine the payout of jumping higher: you, the ball, the net, the crowd, and a dunk. A hammer dunk, a t-square dunk, a 360 dunk, or even a basketball between-the-legs dunk to win the game.

See you at the rim!
